Welcome to St. Andrew Parish

Welcome to St. Andrew Parish! En Español

It is a great joy for me to welcome you to St. Andrew Parish, in the heart of Old Pasadena. Our parish is celebrating its 125th Anniversary this year. This is a time of celebration and above all, thanksgiving. Our present church, built in 1927, was the inspiration of a man with great vision, Msgr. John McCarthy. His wish was to bring a "little bit of Rome" to Pasadena, and indeed he succeeded.

Our building still fills one with awe and wonder whether visiting for the first time or on a daily or weekly basis. We are a diverse parish culturally and economically. This makes us unique. Yet, we strive at all times to be one family, united by our Catholic Faith. This Faith is expressed in many ways here by the many people who call this parish their spiritual home.

As your pastor, it is my strong desire to get to know you and your family personally. When you attend mass and see me outside, please introduce yourself. Relationships are important, especially in a parish community. This gives us a sense of belonging and makes us feel comfortable and welcomed. I also invite you to introduce yourself and your family to the other priests who serve here. If you are interested in joining our parish, either register online or stop by the Pastoral Center at 140 Chestnut Street. You may also fill out the registration form in the church bulletin and place it in the collection basket.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Stewardship & Discipleship

November 21, 2010

Dear Saint Andrew Parishioners:

As we approach this season of Thanksgiving and the beginning of Advent, I want to express my deep appreciation and gratitude to you for your willingness to take on the role of stewards and disciples for our Saint Andrew Church community. Such stewardship and discipleship take many forms, whether it is donating to the Piazza Project that was dedicated yesterday, whether it is serving as a volunteer on one of scores of ministries that quite literally serve as lifelines to not only our church community but the larger community that surrounds our blessed space, or whether it is following church doctrine and practice with fidelity, grace, and humility. Indeed, you light up our church community in countless ways.

As we move forward toward our 125th Anniversary Year and Celebration, with a very full calendar of scheduled spiritual and cultural activities and events, I want to once again thank all the donors who gave so generously to the Piazza Project. It is my belief as well as the belief of others in our faith community that the Piazza will serve as a gathering place where all are welcome, whether you are a parishioner or not, thereby serving as a bridge to the larger community while providing attractive space for church social, cultural, and faith activities. So as we inch toward 2011 and our 125th Anniversary, we do so by embracing our faith, honoring our church history, and celebrating the institution that we call Saint Andrew Catholic Church. These three themes that the Steering Committee for the 125th Anniversary Celebration selected as bedrock principles for our Anniversary Year will also serve, I am confident, as principles that will remain timeless for our parish.

During all Masses this weekend, I will provide you with a summary of the financial health of Saint Andrew Church as well as offering additional remarks on the theme of stewardship and its responsibilities for you as a church parishioner. In addition, a more detailed summary on the state of our financial affairs will be included along with this letter. Should you have any questions regarding this report, please let me know.

On behalf of Monsignor Tobias English, Father Oliver Ortega, and our church support staff, we are very grateful and thankful for your continued support.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Reverend Paul A. Sustayta
Pastor

Mensaje del Padre Pablo

¡Bienvenido a la Parroquia de San Andrés! In English
