Welcome to St. Andrew Parish
It is a great joy for me to welcome you to St. Andrew Parish, in the heart of Old Pasadena. Our parish celebrated its 125th Anniversary in 2011, a time not only of celebration but of thanksgiving, as well.
Our present church, built in 1927, was the inspiration of Msgr. John McCarthy, whose vision brought the beauty of historic Roman basilicas to our city. Remarkably, some eighty-six years later, the majestic structure that is St. Andrew Church fills parishioners and visitors alike with awe and wonder yet today.
St. Andrew Parish is a unique faith community, known for its rich tradition of celebrating cultural and ethnic diversity while offering a wide variety of liturgical experiences for our parishioners. Our mission is to be one family united by our Catholic faith, and this faith is expressed in countless ways by those individuals who call our parish their spiritual home.
We are also blessed to have hundreds of highly-talented and dedicated parishioners who serve with distinction as volunteers on the scores of spiritual and cultural ministries, councils and committees that constitute parish life here. Among these parish service and cultural groups are the Parish Pastoral Council, the Liturgical Committees, the Pastoral Care Ministry, a St. Vincent de Paul Society Chapter, the Social Justice Ministry, the Church Choirs, the newly-formed Young Adult Ministry, Bereavement Ministry, and the Black, Filipino, and Hispanic committees, which organize and sponsor various parish activities.
It my sincere wish, and the wish of the other priests who serve here, to get to know you and your family. So, when you attend a Mass that any of us have celebrated and see us outside the Church please introduce yourself. As you know, relationships are central in the life of any parish and I consider it a gift from Almighty God to have you here at St. Andrew Church.
With heartfelt thanks, I welcome you to our parish, yours and mine.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Reverend Paul A. Sustayta
